We are Rotarians for Mental Health, an advocacy coalition of District 5450 clubs. Our mission is to raise awareness, foster compassion and develop broad-based support for those affected by mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Our leaders are, from left to right, Co-chair Diane Messamore, Co-chair Bill Farrow, Former Co-Chair Patty Burnett and Co-chair Seth Patterson. Hans Wiik also is a co-chair.
Our current members are the Rotary Clubs of Boulder, Boulder Flatirons, Boulder Valley, Carbon Valley, Castle Pines, Commerce City, Denver, Denver Cherry Creek, Denver Mile High, Denver Southeast, Englewood, Evergreen, Golden, Longmont Twin Peaks, Niwot, Parker Cherry Creek, Westminster 7:10 and Wheat Ridge. We invite any club interested in service around mental health to join us.
We are a District 5450-endorsed program. Here’s how we came about: In 2011, several clubs in the Denver Metro area were actively engaged in mental health projects and began to exchange ideas. Early on, they collaborated with mental health professionals and recognized the importance of education for Rotary members and their communities. We called our work Mental Health Initiatives. Now we are Rotarians for Mental Health.
If your Rotary Club is considering a mental health project, please count our co-chairs as available resources.
