The Rotary Club of Cherry Creek has a huge commitment to work in mental health.
Past projects (2018-2019): 1) Presentation to parents and faculty at McAulliffe Middle School with speakers from: -Colorado Consortium for the Prevention of Prescription Drug Abuse (Dr. Rob Valuck) -JP Opioid Interaction Alliance (Suzi Stolte) -Young People in Recovery Colorado chapter -Stop the Opioid Epidemic Project--SAFE Project (Dr. Sarah Werner) 2) Presentation on Substance Abuse given to all the 8th grade students at McAullife Middle School (via their health classes, over a 2-day period) given by Rise Above Colorado. 3) Presentation/Discussion on Opioid Abuse give to PE classes at DS21, a DPS high school for at-risk student, facilitated by SAFE Project's outreach director Dylan Dunn.
Future Projects (2020): 1) Presentations at Northfield High School Mental Wellness Event in early February. Families from 4 different DPS high schools attending. Speakers: -SafeProject Dylan Dunn Director of Outreach -JP Opioid Interaction Alliance Suzi Stolte -Patti Nelson mother of son in successful recovery after 12 years of heroin addiction (starting at age 14--Cherry Creek School District) 2) Member Dr. Sarah Werner (sjwern@gmail.com) is looking for opportunities to implement presentations to area middle and high schools. SAFE Project has a beautiful model providing free presentations/discussions in health and PE classes which are specifically tailored to fit into the schools' culture and requires no additional work for teacher and administrators. Dr. Werner is on several committee work groups with the Colorado Consortium for the Prevention of Prescription Drug Abuse.
